A long overdue update?

Posted by Jen on May 19, 2010 in Life

Wow, it’s been a while! Like almost everyone, life is busy *nodnod* Finally got a bit of extra breathing space – all the people who were visiting this term have now been and gone! Just 2 weeks of term left and 2 essays due. Very manageable after 3 essays, 3 seminars + all the normal readings for class over the past 4 weeks. *Giant sigh of relief*

I have 5 weeks off for mid-semester break. No exams means 3 weeks of extra holidays! Going home for pretty much all of that time – little niece’s due date was a week yesterday! Can’t wait for her to come and to meet her :3

AAAND I have 5 weeks to catch up on all the TV I’ve missed! GLEEEEE, Greys, Dexter, and a few others I’m forgetting…! And maybe get ahead in some of the essays due next term… that would be clever but how realistic is it, I wonder!

And then I move into my new place here in Chch! Well, I move all my stuff before I leave but come back to live in the new place *nodnod* Not looking forward to my 4th (5th? 6th? Lost count) move in the past 6 months.

I should probably stop rambling now. Hopefully I’ll have more time to update this thing with more… “fun” stuff.

FML

Posted by Jen on Nov 11, 2009 in Life

I opened up the curtains in the lounge yesterday morning and saw a furry little thing on the ground. Being completely freaked out thinking it was a dead rat or mouse, I moved closer to it to get a better look. I should have gone with my gut instinct and ran away. But nope, I looked. It’s not a rat or mouse. It’s an animal leg. Looks like a sheep or a goat from what we can tell from a distance.

We move out on Saturday. We have to clean up the section. x_x

Huzzah, one of my three classes have finished lectures. Down to classes 2 days of the week until the end of the year! :D Added bonus, my Bambi to Kong class was cancelled today so only one day of classes this week! Life is good today. The sun is even shining! :D

Everlong

Posted by Jen on Sep 28, 2009 in Life, University

The year is going by too quickly. Too much to do and not enough time!

I went to a Seminar a couple of weeks ago about a Disney College Programme. Of course it isn’t as great as they make it out to be (it’s basically 6 months or a year working retail or customer service of some kind) but I think it looks pretty good! I’ve always wanted to live in America (for a little while at least!) and I think this may be the only chance I’d get to do it with ease any time soon before I get too settled into ‘the real world’.

I met with the Honours Co-ordinator today though. Apart from having to come up with my research thesis topic in the next few weeks, (omg stress, it’s pretty much a year of study on this topic I have to pick pretty much now o.o I have no idea what or where to start.) I’m actually really excited about Post-graduate study! More than I have been in the 5 years of my Undergrad! Baaah. Decisions.

Time to Pretend

Posted by Jen on Aug 10, 2009 in Life

Time for an August update before September rolls around! (Where is this year going!?)

Busy couple of weeks coming up. Two essays due by next Thursday, fly home Friday to surprise mum for her birthday on Saturday, JNs birthday (thankfully because of the time difference on) Sunday, and a couple of job interviews Tuesday and Wednesday that week.

Which brings me to my dilemma of the moment – what to do next year.

Option A – Stay at Uni doing post-grad study.
Plus side: After 5 years I’m pretty used to this lifestyle so what’s one more year? Plus a post-grad degree would be pretty sweet. It would be hard coming back to study in however many years… I could try and get a position in the Halls so I don’t have to pay rent. Omg, I’d have like 200 bucks a week to just spend on myself. *u*
Down side: It’s another year of study. Most people I know will be gone, the few that will be left won’t be at Uni.

Option B – Get a job and enter the “real world”
Plus side: If I get a job in my hometown I could live at home and save. Starting to get experience would be good.
Down side: Having to find a job.

Option C – go overseas for a year and travel
Plus side: Travel. Won’t be able to do prolonged travel for quite a while once I start working. Ride out the recession/lack of jobs.
Down side: Paying for it. Hello mummy and daddy, loooan pleeease.

Wow, seems much simpler when you write it down. If I can find a job I think I’ll go with B. If I apply and get a RA job I think I’ll go with A. If bugger all comes of everything bring on C! And then there’s always Option D *cringe* working at McDs! (or somewhere equally … hideous … after graduating with two bachelor degrees.. and one in Law.)

Why why why why whyyyy must life be so hard and full of potentially life-changing decisions. ;-;
/enough complaining and borderline emo-ing.

How is it almost August?

Posted by Jen on Jul 29, 2009 in Life, University

Semester two of my final (I think?) year at Uni has started with a hiss and a bang! Everything’s been go go go.

I’ve had a giant change around of the papers I’m taking this semester. One I had picked in particular I’d been hanging out for all of my degree… to find it was nothing like it held itself out to be and was totally crap. Other ones I picked up to replace it were… not that great either. I ended up with:

ENGL243 From Bambi to Kong: The Animal in American Popular Culture
ENGL313 Cultures of the Supernatural
LAWS317 Family Law (the second half of that course)

AND I’M SUPER EXCITED. They’re… not the type of papers I’ve taken in the past (homygawd, I haven’t written an English essay since high school… I’m so screwed) and are papers I would have mocked other people for taking because it was taking the easy way out! I.E. no final exam, 3 hours of class a week, watching a bunch of movies and TV programs, only 2 essays. But I figured I may as well take something with interesting content and … a nice workload compared to the past 4 years! 5 courses to 3 courses, so nice!

The 300 level one is quite a bit of work to start off with. Besides the usual readings all/most courses has, this one has 4 books you have to read. I’ve got about another week until I’ve finished them all and then the cruising starts until essays are due mid-August. :D!

It also seems to be birthday season which doesn’t help with the no-time thing and money thing. Between ex-flatmates, current flatmates and flatmates boyfriend there were 4 birthdays in a week from 18th-27th. The last part of the ‘celebrations’ is a party bus trip on Saturday night. I’m trying to finish sewing my costume as we speak. Who would have thought finding a red with white polka-dots dress would be impossible. I don’t have a sewing machine here so I’m doing it by hand! Aaah my eyes! I fear it falling apart on me in some dodgy pub out in the wop-wops so I’m sewing on top of a dress I already have! I’m going as Minnie Mouse (the theme is childhood memories – went to Disney 3 times before I hit my teens so was an easy choice! That and Jem was already taken ;-;) and even found some of the Mouse Ears in a shop today <3

And to make the no-money thing even peachier, my ex-flatmate is being admitted to the bar on Friday! So completely excited for her, can’t wait to see her in her gown and wig being admitted! But we’re doing dinner to celebrate =X It’s at my favourite favourite restaurant ever though, so besides the fact it’s going to be super-expensive it’ll be totally worth it and we know the food and service will be perfect!

To top off my silly week, I had a near-death experience yesterday. … Kinda xD I nearly got hit by a car! I was crossing the road (on the green-walky man!) coming home from Uni. The guy had to slam on his breaks and swerve to miss me. This is why you shouldn’t be shooting the gap people! It’s dangerous! That and, if you hit me I will have you prosecuted xD

Finalsss.

First exam tomorrooow. Time for the panic to set in! Wooo!

Just three exams this time so it’s not too bad. Terrified for Friday’s but that’s another story. Home on Saturday for 2 weeks <333 Can’t wait. But knowing my luck, the weather here will change and the bad weather will be in the north!

The Hangover

Posted by Jen on Jun 18, 2009 in Life

So it appears most people are just over everything here at the moment. Understandable – winter (and we’re having freakishly cold weather too), nearly the end of week one of exams and everyone’s all panicy about swine flu. Upside of the swines, we may have an extra week of holidays! :D :D

Anyway. A group of us went to the movies on Tuesday night just to have some time out. We saw The Hangover. AND IT WAS BRILLIANT. Stupid humour was what we needed. It was a bit of a boys movie with some of the scenes/jokes but on the whole it was … a lighthearted-don’t-have-to-think-about-it (with the added bonus of a couple of pretty boys) movie. I thought all the “funny” bits would be in the preview like most movies but it really wasn’t! Need to go see it again XD

I just want to quit. Everything.

I really hope it’s just the winter blues. Really just over everything at the moment. Hibernation please.
